MSU women have first basketball practice under Schaefer

Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer put his team through a four-hour workout to begin preseason practice Wednesday.

Even though the practice was long, it was just a hint of what the Lady Bulldogs can expect as they train for the season under the new head coach.

MSU sophomore Kendra Grant admitted the practice was tough, but something the players needed.

Wallace Gray Jr., 83, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at his home. 

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church with Brother Clifton Curtis and Brother Jay Spiller officiating.
Burial followed by Brooksville Cemetery.
Visitation was held 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church.

Drexel Heath

October 3, 2012

Drexel Randolph Heath, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was owner of Heath Oil Co. and a Navy veteran.

Carlton Carpenter Jr.

October 3, 2012

Dr. Carlton Lanier Carpenter Jr., 82, a native of Starkville and resident of Baton Rouge, La., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
A private burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Visitation was held 9-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.

William Joiner Pope Sr., 81, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center. 

A full military graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Cemetery with Rev. Joel Hudson officiating.
Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Baptist Church.
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
