The empowering story of Wangari Maathai is capturing the attention of Starkville and Mississippi State University.
On Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Starkville Public Library, author and MSU English professor Michael Kardos will host a presentation and discussion on âUnbowed: A Memoirâ by Maathai, the fourth Maroon Edition book selection.

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors is expected to take the final step necessary to update its county 911 emergency system by approving a software upgrade purchase for dispatchersâ computer systems at its 5:30 p.m. Monday meeting at the courthouse.

JACKSON â Mississippi has nonpartisan judicial elections in name, if not in practice.
Mississippi State is gearing up for the 2012 football season and with 13 days remaining before the opening kickoff, the Bulldogs announced the resignation of Angelo Mirando.
Mirando, who served as the MSU receivers coach last season, indicated personal reasons was the cause for his departure from the program.
The rains passed through the Starkville area on Saturday afternoon just in time for coach Dan Mullen and his Mississippi State Bulldogs to hold their final scrimmage of fall camp.
The end result was a satisfied head coach.
