Community leaders met Wednesday at OCH Regional Medical Center to discuss the importance of collaboration as a means of improving economic development in Starkville through improving the city’s quality of life.

Starkville residents will have the chance to discover their city’s roots as the 175th Birthday Committee hosts “A Mayhew Mission Picnic” Friday.
Participants are asked to meet at the Starkville Public Library at 5:30 p.m. to begin carpooling to the site of the Mayhew Mission, and are encouraged to bring chairs and a picnic dinner.

JACKSON, MISS — The Mississippi Board of Education (MBE) determined that an extreme emergency situation exists in the Oktibbeha County School District. Acting on a recommendation from the Mississippi Commission on School Accreditation, the MBE voted unanimously to ask Gov. Phil Bryant to declare a state of emergency for the school district.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 preceding the service.

EUPORA — Mrs. Blanche Doler Allen, 94, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Long Term Care Unit in Eupora.

Burial will follow in the Old Bethany Cemetery in Webster County.
Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
