On the road again: Jackets return to capital city for Class 5A, Region 2 play

On the road again.

The Starkville Yellowjackets make their third trip to the Jackson area of the season tonight when they meet the Provine Rams. Kickoff for the final game of September is set for 7:30 p.m.

After traveling to beat Lanier 48-0 last week, the Jackets make back-to-back visits to the capital city.

Vols travel to meet Colonels in football

The Starkville Academy football team has come to that part of the season where one win or one loss can make or break its season.

Tonight, the Volunteers (3-3, 1-1) travel to Gallman to take on Copiah Academy (0-6, 0-1) at 7 p.m. in a division game.

East Webster, Ackerman face off in first division football game

It has been a long non-division schedule for both Ackerman and East Webster.

This week the Indians and Wolverines square off in each team's first Class 2A, Region 2, District 4 game.

East Webster (5-1) travels to Ackerman (4-2) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Junior Vols earn shutout to claim football conference title

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, a couple of Starkville Academy players grabbed the water cooler and doused coach Chad Peterson.

They were celebrating their second Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA, District 2, Division II title.

The Volunteers (6-1) did it in convincing fashion with a 35-0 win over Copiah Academy at J.E. Logan Field Thursday night.

Starkville 9th graders out-score Louisville in football

The Starkville High School 9th grade Yellowjackets started fast against the Louisville Wildcats Thursday night.

When quarterback Montario Montgomery found Terrance Grayer for a 61-yard touchdown pass on the first offensive possession of the game for Starkville and Deontay Rogers ran in the two-point conversion, it was the first eight of what turned out to be 28 points for the home team.

Seniors go out strong for SA soccer

The smile that came across the face of Emilie Sanders said it all Thursday afternoon.

All of the seniors for the Starkville Academy girls soccer team saw action during the final home match and all of them scored a goal during an 11-0 victory over Copiah Academy at the Starkville Sportsplex.

Sanders was the final senior to get in on the fun in the later stages of the second half.
