Jackets begin bowling practice

Championships are often won before teams ever reach a competitive situation against another school.
For members of the Starkville High School bowling team, practices are taken very seriously.
The boys won the region championship last season and have several bowlers returning from that team.

Board pushes out court clerk

October 25, 2013

During a near three-hour executive session that ended just after noon Thursday, Starkville’s Board of Alderman issued an ultimatum to the municipal court clerk — resign or be fired.

The official motion, which passed with a 6-0 vote, gave Debra Wood until 5 p.m. today to resign or the city would effectively terminate her employment.

Citywide Tailgate kicks off Thursday

Leading up to Thursday night’s Mississippi State football game, the 2013 Citywide Tailgate was in full force throughout downtown Starkville and other nearby locations.

Thirteen businesses participated in the first citywide tailgate in three years with the theme “Bulldog Style” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. After the three-year hiatus, many businesses pulled out all the stops for the event.

Unity Park opening again facing delay

Unity Park’s long-awaited opening is facing another delay.

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors had scheduled to open the park on Saturday, but the opening will not go forward as planned.

District 3 Supervisor Marvell Howard said the board needed more time to properly plan the event.

Bulldogs catch Cats: MSU holds on to top Kentucky

Earlier this season the Mississippi State Bulldogs were close to getting their first Southeastern Conference win of the season. 
MSU didn't close the door on Auburn and the Tigers scored late in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
It almost happened again Thursday night. 

Lewis scores three ways for MSU again

Mississippi State wide receiver Jameon Lewis had another touchdown rushing, receiving and passing in the first half of Thursday's 28-22 win against Kentucky.
Lewis had a 19-yard touchdown rushing with 6:34 left in the first quarter and caught a 17-yard scoring pass from quarterback Dak Prescott with 6:14 remaining in the second quarter.

Jackets treating stretch like postseason situation

The football postseason doesn't officially start until Nov. 15 for Class 6A in Mississippi High School Activities Association.
When it comes to winning Class 6A, Region 2, Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell is already treating each week down the stretch like the playoffs.

Eupora police officer killed

A Eupora Police officer died Wednesday after trying to stop a high-speed chase.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Criss Turnipseed said Keith Crenshaw, 52, of Eupora died after trying to deploy a spike strip to stop three suspected robbers that authorities wanted in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Grenada.
