E. J. Hollis

November 27, 2013

E.J. Hollis, 87, passed away on November 26, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS.  He was the retired owner of Hollis Brothers and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Starkville.  He was also an Army veteran.
Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, Deewitt Augustus Hollis and Mae Henderson Hollis; and grandson, Bubba Hollis.

Battle for Golden Egg big deal for Bulldogs

No one has ever questioned how important the Egg Bowl is to Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen.
From day one, he has made a point to make his feelings known about the Magnolia State rivalry. 
On Wednesday, Mullen took it to another level for his Bulldogs.
"(The players) would rather win this game than go to a bowl game," Mullen said on Wednesday's Southeastern Conference teleconference. 

Jackets had good season, not satisfied

The Starkville Yellowjackets fell short of their goal in winning their second-straight football state championship this season.
That doesn't mean that coach Jamie Mitchell is any less proud of what his team was able to accomplish.
Starkville finished with a 9-4 overall record and 6-1 in Class 6A, Region 2 that was good for second place.

MSU survives Jackson State for 58-56 win

It appeared that the Mississippi State men's basketball team had already mentally checked out, and were getting ready for its Thanksgiving meal.
It nearly cost the Bulldogs a game.
MSU pulled together in the second half as it survived upset-minded Jackson State 58-56 Wednesday afternoon inside Humphrey Coliseum.

McCree loves her time as player with Bulldogs

Volleyball player Dani McCree came for an official visit to Mississippi State a few short years ago.
Upon their arrival, her mom Dana told her do not commit until you have seen everything, but it did not take much for McCree to fall in love with her future home.

Starkville Police chief retires - City investigation ongoing

Starkville Board of Aldermen unanimously accepted embattled Starkville Police Chief David Lindley’s letter of retirement during a called meeting Tuesday afternoon.

The board placed Lindley on administrative leave with pay on Friday after another called meeting. Lindley was to remain on leave while the city conducted an investigation.

Posey, 71, said he’d grappled with the decision for some time, and finally decided it was time to move on.

After starting 3-0, Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray felt his team had developed big heads.
Last season saw a Bulldog team lose more than they won, and the 3-0 start was a welcomed start.
MSU was brought back down to reality after an 87-68 loss to Utah State on the road on Saturday.

MSU women secure 81-63 home victory

It was not a good first 4 minutes of Tuesday night's basketball game for the Mississippi State women.
The Bulldogs had only scored six points during that stretch and trailed visiting Savannah State Tigers 7-6.
With a trip to Naples, Fla., looming and a bus ride to Birmingham, Ala., taking place immediately following the game, MSU head coach Vic Schaefer knew that might present a problem.
