Starkville shut out the H.W. Byers Lady Bears in the extra frame to win a 51-47 decision at the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk at the Hump Christmas Tournament.
After Byers rallied from a 47-40 deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime, the Lady Jackets had the only four points in overtime.

The Bulldogs are gearing up for a clash with the Rice Owls (10-3), who won Conference USA in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Tuesday. MSU (6-6) arrived in Memphis on Thursday and have gotten three practices in.
Mrs. Belinda Fields McDaniel, 57, of Starkville, MS; passed away at her residence on Friday, December 27, 2013.
She was of the Baptist faith and grew up in Webb, MS. She retired from Mississippi State University.Â She loved fly fishing and flowers.
