Henderson heating up for Bulldogs

When the weather heats up, so does Demarcus Henderson.
The Mississippi State junior outfielder started out the 2013 season in good fashion.
The Waynesboro native was 15-47 (.319) in his first 17 games. In his next 24 games, Henderson was just 15-51 (.208).

MSU's Renfroe drafted 13th overall by Padres

Hunter Renfroe's junior season was an eyeopener for a good amount of Major League Baseball scouts.
Thursday night that was evident.
The Mississippi State junior outfielder was taken 13th overall by the San Diego Padres in Thursday night's First-Year Player draft.

Area softball players set for all-star game

The lineups have been set and first pitch is fast approaching.
On Saturday a couple of area softball players will join others from around the state for the 12th Annual MAC All-Star Fast Pitch Softball Game. Representing their schools will be catcher Allie Steadman of Eupora and right fielder Alaina Hill from East Webster.

Political signage coming down in wake of general election

Starkville’s lawns and roadways are shedding some of their clutter in the wake of Tuesday’s general election. Areas previously flooded with political signage are returning to normal, and according to city ordinances they have until Friday to do it.

County considers aerial mapping

Representatives of 20 counties, including Oktibbeha, met on the campus of Mississippi State University Wednesday to learn about an opportunity to have aerial mapping images updated.

The effort, called the Northeast Mississippi Ortho Project, is a joint effort of the 20 counties in northeast and central Mississippi.

Summer meal programs open to area students

Children in Oktibbeha County will have access to free healthy breakfasts and lunches this summer, thanks to a new program offered by the Oktibbeha County School District.

The Commission on Starkville Consolidated School District Structure will meet at 1 p.m. today in the Starkville School District Board Room in the Greensboro Center, with prior instances of consolidation in Mississippi expected to be up for discussion.

Ground broken on Beef O’ Brady’s

Months of planning have come to a head for the development team of Beef O’Brady’s. Tabor Construction of Starkville broke ground on the sports pub project Monday on Stark Road.

Kay Regimbal, vice president of development at Tabor, said the planning phase began in October, and while project completion would depend on weather, crews were expected to finish this fall.
