Lady Vols begin season with win

WEST POINT – There are still some lessons to be learned by the Starkville Academy girls softball team, but learning is a much easier thing to accomplish after a win.
That's what the Lady Volunteers did Friday afternoon as they opened the 2013 campaign by defeating Oak Hill 10-4.

East Oktibbeha shuffles around coaching staff

CRAWFORD – East Oktibbeha High School has shuffled some things around with its coaching staff.
Randy Brooks confirmed Friday that he has resigned as football coach to concentrate on other athletic duties, while John Davis has been hired to work with the Titans on the gridiron.

West Oktibbeha's Crawford to add football to duties

MABEN – The West Oktibbeha Timberwolves have a new football coach, but the coach is not new to the school.
Basketball coach and athletic director Danny Crawford was asked to add the responsibility of football to his plate and he has accepted the challenge.
He takes over for Adam Lowrey, who resigned earlier this year.

MSU receives $2.1 million juvenile grant

Mississippi State University has received a $2.1 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to conduct a 5-year study on prevention and treatment services for drug abuse and HIV in the juvenile justice system.
