Lady Vols see softball season come to an end

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers showed their potential against Heritage Academy in the first inning and a half at the Propst Park softball complex Monday afternoon.
Starkville Academy used five hits to take a 4-0 lead and looked to be control in a loser's bracket game of the North AAA Tournament.

MSU's Jackson honored by SEC

After a solid performance against Troy that helped the team to 235 rushing yards, Mississippi State senior guard Gabe Jackson was selected as Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Jackson helped the Bulldogs to a 62-7 win over the Trojans on Saturday night.

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Abraham Lincoln will be at Mississippi State today for a number of university-organized public programs.
Of course, the actual 16th U.S. chief executive who was assassinated in 1865 will be unable to make it, but his transcendent spirit should be well represented at a two-day special event.

Voting begins in prosecutor’s race

Absentee voting for the Oktibbeha County prosecutor special election begins today.

The special election will be held on Nov. 5 to elect a county prosecutor after longtime prosecutor Roy Carpenter resigned in June.

Haley Brown, Brace Knox and Matt Wilson are running in November’s election.

SPIRIT OF OKTIBBEHA - Morgan helps county rediscover history

George Evans remembers when he and Ruth Morgan were children, back in the 1940s.

He said he had started shining shoes in his father’s parlor at the age of eight, and Morgan’s father was a frequent customer of the parlor. He also remembers Morgan sitting on her father’s knee. He said it was not the only memory they shared.
