Kick by Cox lifts SA Vols

September 26, 2013

It's not often when it comes down to a field goal to win a junior high football game.
That was the case at Starkville Academy Thursday night.
The Volunteers moved into position to attempt a field goal in the closing seconds of a matchup against Heritage Academy and Sam Cox split the uprights on a 27-yarder to give SA a 17-14 victory.

Lady Vols get two wins in two days

Starkville Academy soccer coach Cole Andrews wanted to see his team accomplish a winning record in his first year.
The Lady Volunteers took a major step in that direction the last two days with a pair of solid victories.
After defeating Washington School in Greenville 7-3 on Wednesday, Starkville Academy returned home on Thursday to shut out Heritage Academy 6-0 at the Starkville Sportsplex.

East Webster rallies to beat rival Eupora

The phrase never give up is often thrown around in sports.
On Thursday evening, it was true for the East Webster Lady Wolverine softball team.
After trailing Eupora for the majority of the game, East Webster scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and ultimately get the 10-6 victory.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack described multiple Mississippi State University research projects as assets to America’s economic recovery after a tour of MSU Wednesday, but he warned that failure to renew the U.S. Farm Bill by Oct. 1 could stymie the promise of such research.

Scheduled for 5 p.m. today in the Greater Starkville Development Partnership office, the association’s third annual meeting will also include awards.
