Voting begins in prosecutor’s race

September 23, 2013

Absentee voting for the Oktibbeha County prosecutor special election begins today.

The special election will be held on Nov. 5 to elect a county prosecutor after longtime prosecutor Roy Carpenter resigned in June.

Haley Brown, Brace Knox and Matt Wilson are running in November’s election.

SPIRIT OF OKTIBBEHA - Morgan helps county rediscover history

George Evans remembers when he and Ruth Morgan were children, back in the 1940s.

He said he had started shining shoes in his father’s parlor at the age of eight, and Morgan’s father was a frequent customer of the parlor. He also remembers Morgan sitting on her father’s knee. He said it was not the only memory they shared.

Bulldogs win big, but not satisfied

Four games into the season, Mississippi State has seen its fair share of highs and lows.
The Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1) are coming off a 62-7 victory over Troy on Saturday. Being satisfied going into the off week is something MSU head coach Dan Mullen doesn't want his players to be.

Lady Volunteers start postseason

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have found a positive rhythm offensively in the last two weeks.
As the postseason begins in softball for Mississippi Association of Independent Schools, Starkville Academy coach Kayla Mosley hopes her team is entering the North State AAA Tournament in Columbus today at the top of its game.

MSU tricks, trounces Troy: Bulldogs roll to 62-7 win over Trojans

If Mississippi State was still thinking about last week's heart-breaking loss to Auburn, it didn't show on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs rolled past Troy 62-7 at Davis Wade Stadium in front of a sellout crowd.
"I felt, at practice, we had a much better week this last week," MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "We were going to improve from week three to four and it showed out there on the field."

SMITH COLUMN: Trick play gives boost to Bulldogs

A successful trick play can certainly change the momentum of a football game.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs found that to be true on Saturday night.
At the beginning of the second quarter of Saturday's 62-7 victory over the Troy Trojans, the Bulldogs benefitted from one of those plays at Davis Wade Stadium.

Mississippi State has 25th-straight sellout

Dan Mullen made it a goal of his to see every ticket for Davis Wade Stadium sold.
On Saturday night, he got another sellout.
The Bulldogs sold out DWS for the 25th straight time as they went onto a 62-7 victory over non-conference opponent Troy.
"I thank our crowd," Mullen said. "Our crowd gave us that home-field advantage again."

MSU's recruiting class rated No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball

Coming on the heels of an appearance in the College World Series National Championship Series, Mississippi State's recruiting class was recognized as one of the best in the nation.
Collegiate Baseball released its rankings on Friday and the Bulldogs were No. 2 on the list.
The 2012-13 ranking class is the highest in school history. MSU's 1994 class was ranked No. 1 in the country.
