At one point during his lecture for Mississippi State University students, University of Mississippi psychology professor and neuroscientist Kenneth J. Sufka asked students to pick out an accurately drawn picture of a penny from amid 14 other inaccurate penny pictures on a projector slide.

Volunteer Starkville recognizes locals

Volunteer Starkville has recognized three individuals and a group for outstanding volunteer service in the Starkville community.

The organization recognized Laura Dunn, Tiaras Love, the Controllers Generation II 4-H Club and Tom Pan for the honor.

Magnolia Heights has ability to score points

Coming off a 75-48 win against Marshall Academy, the Chiefs of Magnolia Heights are looking to keep rolling as they welcome Starkville Academy to town on Friday.
The recent victory was much needed for the Chiefs, who the previous week were shut out by Jackson Academy after having opened the season 2-0 with wins at Northpoint Christian and at home against North Delta.

Hosting meet today, change for Jackets

A change is in store when the Starkville High cross country team takes the track this week.
Instead of running early in the morning on a weekend, the Yellowjackets will line up this evening at the Mississippi Horse Park for the Mississippi State Cross Country Invitational.

Yellowjackets host meet at Sanderson

September 18, 2013

The Starkville High School swim team is excited about the opportunity to host a swim meet today.
At approxmiately 4:15 p.m. at the Sanderson Center on the campus of Mississippi State, the Yellowjackets welcome six other swim teams in for competition.
Tupelo, West Point, Mississippi School of Math and Science, Tupelo Christian Prep, Ripley and Amory will join Starkville in the pool.

MSU student dies in accident - Another student injured

September 18, 2013

One MSU student is dead, another is injured and a third has been arrested, all in connection with a Tuesday morning traffic accident near McDonald’s and Strange Brew Coffeehouse on Highway 12 in Starkville.

Starkville police said the accident occurred just after 2 a.m. Police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Kyle D. Barker of Lucedale.

Abduction attempt report ruled hoax

Mississippi State University has determined that a female student falsely reported an attempted abduction to university police on Wednesday.

Mississippi State Dean of Students Thomas Bourgeois said in a university release that the student has withdrawn her account of the initial report to university police.
