Two years after his initial arrest by the Mississippi Attorney Generalâs office, John A. Brown, 62, of Starkville, pleaded guilty to one count possession of child pornography Monday in the Oktibbeha County Circuit Court.
Chad Garnett, OCSD chief deputy sheriff, said the arrest came in 2011 following an investigation by Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hoodâs office.
A primary election night that left two alderman wards in limbo also produced an easy victory for Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman.
Wiseman, a one-term incumbent, easily defeated democratic challenger Mary Lee Beal by a 1,763 to 963 margin in Tuesdayâs primary, according to unofficial totals. Wiseman will face Republican Dan Moreland in the June 4 general election.

Charles Richard Orr I, age 78, of Starkville, Mississippi, died on May 7, 2013 at his daughterâs home in Seagrove, NC after a long battle with cancer. Family visitation will be held Friday evening, May 10, 6:30-8:30 PM at London Funeral Home in Lewisburg, TN, with funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, May 11. Burial will follow at Temple Cemetery in Farmington, TN.
Ted Hoyt, 41 of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at his motherâs home in Columbus, MS after fighting a brave battle with brain cancer.
The college baseball regular season is coming down the homestretch and there is still a lot to be decided.
The Southeastern Conference Tournament seeds are no where close to being set in stone. The No. 24 (Collegiate Baseball) Mississippi State Bulldogs (36-13, 13-11) are trying to solidify their position in the SEC Tournament, as well as, in the NCAA Tournament.
Baseball series in the Southeastern Conference all have a certain measure of importance.
Some of them have more significance than others.
When the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels begin a three-game conference set in Oxford on Friday, there will be much on the line.

ACKERMAN â The Loyd Star Hornets stood between the Ackerman Indians and advancement in the Class 2A playoffs.
With the series tied 1-1, the pair of high school baseball teams faced off on Tuesday and at the end, it was the Hornets who moved one step ahead in the playoffs following their 10-5 victory.

Last Friday, âIron Man 3â opened at the box office, earning $175.3 million in its first three days, the second biggest opening weekend of all time. On Monday, MSU President Mark Keenum spoke to children from across the state about a different âIron Manâ who also posted impressive numbers.

Oktibbeha County School District Conservator Margie Pulley announced at the districtâs meeting Monday that the district has received preliminary clearance from the Mississippi Department of Education of 12 accreditation standards.

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Monday a resolution for intent to issue bonds for economic development projects in the future.
Joey Deason, the Oktibbeha County representative in the Golden Triangle Link, presented the resolution, which would see the county prepared to issue up to $5 million for future projects, if needed.
