Not many people can say they lived through World War I, World War II and the Great Depression. Lois J. Gatlin is one.

At 100 years young, Gatlin recently accepted a proclamation declaring May as Older Americans Month in Starkville from Mayor Parker Wiseman.

Local musician set to sing in Bulgaria

While backed against the wall of a crowded rehearsal room in Bulgaria listening to an orchestra practice, opera singer and Starkville native Elizabeth Jones said she realized there was nowhere else she would rather be.

MSU softball makes field for NCAA Tourney

The Mississippi State Bulldogs learned late Sunday night that they will be included in the NCAA Tournament field for the second-straight year under head coach Vann Stuedeman.
MSU (32-22) will be playing at the Mobile (Ala.) Regional and take on Florida State in the first round at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Mississippi Valley State and host South Alabama are the other teams in the field.

Bulldogs rally to beat Rebels

OXFORD – The situation looked bleak once again for the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
After five innings against the rival Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State was in danger of being swept for the second time in three weekends.

Two Jackets. Four titles: Mattox, Grady excel at Class 5A State meet

PEARL – The Starkville Yellowjackets had a dynamic duo at the Class 5A State championships Saturday afternoon.
Kate Mattox and Damian Grady each claimed a pair of individual State titles in distance events as the SHS boys and girls teams both finished fifth in the state.
