Baseball series in the Southeastern Conference all have a certain measure of importance.
Some of them have more significance than others.
When the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels begin a three-game conference set in Oxford on Friday, there will be much on the line.

Indians eliminated by Hornets

ACKERMAN – The Loyd Star Hornets stood between the Ackerman Indians and advancement in the Class 2A playoffs.
With the series tied 1-1, the pair of high school baseball teams faced off on Tuesday and at the end, it was the Hornets who moved one step ahead in the playoffs following their 10-5 victory.

Ripken Foundation gives students glimpse of college

Last Friday, “Iron Man 3” opened at the box office, earning $175.3 million in its first three days, the second biggest opening weekend of all time. On Monday, MSU President Mark Keenum spoke to children from across the state about a different “Iron Man” who also posted impressive numbers.

School district reports progress on accreditation

Oktibbeha County School District Conservator Margie Pulley announced at the district’s meeting Monday that the district has received preliminary clearance from the Mississippi Department of Education of 12 accreditation standards.

Supervisors OK bond resolution

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Monday a resolution for intent to issue bonds for economic development projects in the future.

Joey Deason, the Oktibbeha County representative in the Golden Triangle Link, presented the resolution, which would see the county prepared to issue up to $5 million for future projects, if needed.

Manning’s fate met with mixed emotions

A group of protesters gathered at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse on Monday to plead for the release of death row inmate Willie Jerome Manning.

Manning faces execution at 6 p.m. today for the 1992 murders of two Mississippi State University students.

SA golf finishes fourth at State

HATTIESBURG – The Starkville Academy golf team shot a 326 at the Hattiesburg Country Club on Monday to finish fourth at the AAA State Tournament.

SHS Jackets lose decision, season ends

Almost a week after game one, Starkville and Oxford met on the diamond for the final game of a best-of-three series that would place one team in the quarterfinals while the other would see its season come to a close.

County elementary schools earn accolades

Oktibbeha County School District Conservator Margie Pulley will recognize students, faculty and staff at West Oktibbeha County Elementary School and East Oktibbeha County Elementary School for awards they received in Jackson at the district’s monthly meeting today at noon in the district offices.
