Supes hear input from attendees

Oktibbeha County District 3 Supervisor Marvell Howard called a special meeting Tuesday at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse Annex to inform county residents about legislation to consolidate the Oktibbeha County School District and the Starkville School District and voice these residents’ concerns to legislators.

Annette Poitra Irby, 48, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at her residence in Starkville. 

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 in the Welch Funeral Home chapel in Starkville.

Burial will follow in Adaton Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.

Kendall Graveman took his selection in the Major League Baseball draft serious.

The Mississippi State right-handed pitcher was drafted in the 36th round by the Miami Marlins last year. He didn't know what to do coming off his junior season and had to make the decision on is own.

It seems that mid February brings that opportunity more than any other because all of the crossover that athletic events have.

For the third time in as many weeks, the Volunteers and Patriots met on the hardwood, and for the third time Starkville Academy walked away victorious 56-41.

SHS boys lose heartbreaker in 2OTs

CANTON – Starkville High School's boys basketball team was trying to extend its season as long as it could Tuesday night.

The Yellowjackets knew that a loss would be the end of the campaign and they were not ready for that to happen, so they fought through two overtimes.

Even though Starkville took the game into the extra frames, it still came up short to Canton 60-59.

East Webster boys advance after defeating Ackerman

MADISON – The East Webster Wolverines moved one step closer to a division title as they knocked off Ackerman 59-53 on Tuesday.

Though his team picked up the victory, East Webster coach Corey Stidham knows it has to play better heading down the stretch if it wants to advance towards a state championship.

SHS football team honored at banquet

Tim Goliday had the experience of winning not only one State football championship with the Starkville Yellowjackets, but two in 1994 and 1995.

Fast forward 17 years later and Goliday gets to share in another State championship with his son TeQuan.

Mrs. Mary Sue Heyer, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. Prentiss Gordon Jr. officiating.
