MSU's Mullen rotates quarterbacks, punters

Mississippi State has used two quarterbacks this season and two kickers.
The Bulldogs are set on a two-quarterback system and it seems that head coach Dan Mullen is comfortable with using two guys to punt.
In Thursday's 28-22 win over Kentucky, Devon Bell and Baker Swedenburg both punted.
Bell punted three times for an average of 41.7 yards. His longest punt went 46 yards.

The Mississippi State soccer team found a reason to be encouraged Sunday afternoon.
Despite falling to 0-10 in the Southeastern Conference, the latest effort for the Bulldogs may have been the best yet.
MSU lost a 1-0 decision to the 13th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks at home and it is considered something to be something positive.

MONDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK: SHS on brink of region title

Starkville is one win away from doing of what was maybe once believed to be the unthinkable.
If the Yellowjackets (7-2, 5-0) beat Warren Central Friday night, they win Class 6A, Region 2. The 2012 Class 5A State champions have not had a drop off since moving to 6A.

If there is one thing you can say about Starkville Academy's football team, it is that the Volunteers do not give up.
Starkville Academy proved that Friday night as it continued to battle despite being down 14-0 to Heritage Academy. That drive to compete is what has stood out about the young Vols all season long.

Lady Wolverine pride: East Webster still stands tall despite softball defeat

RIDGELAND – East Webster softball has made quite the name for itself over the last few years.
“You have to be proud of what you are doing,” Lady Wolverines coach Lee Berryhill said. “We played in the South State championship game in slow and were State champions in fast last season. Now we are runners-up in slow this year. A lot of people wish they had that.”

It has been a long journey for Trevor Fitts and his beard.
The Mississippi State junior right hander strokes his beard these days as he watches fall practice.
The Helena, Ala., native made a Power Point last December on the advantages of baseball players having beards. He presented it to head coach John Cohen.

After winning four straight state championships from 2006 to 2009 and again last year in fast-pitch softball, East Webster is taking a turn at playing for a slow-pitch title.

JACKSON – Since entering division play, the Starkville Yellowjackets have had a good run.
They added to that run Friday night.
The Jackets knocked off Class 6A, Region 2 opponent Murrah 48-28 at Newell Field for their sixth-straight win.
Starkville (7-2, 5-0) opened the season with a 17-0 victory over Noxubee County, then lost its next two games to Oxford and West Point.
