SOUTHAVEN – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers enjoyed a very good third quarter against the Southaven Lady Chargers Saturday and defeated the public school competition 51-38.

Dr. Kirk Patrick Arnett

Dr. Kirk Patrick Arnett was born to Mildred Kirkpatrick and Gus Arnett of Columbus, Mississippi on March 29, 1946 and passed away in Starkville, Mississippi on December 19, 2013 after a lengthy cancer battle.

MSU fined by SEC for violation of Artificial Noisemaker Policy

Mississippi State was fined $25,000 by the Southeastern Conference for violation of the SEC's Artificial Noisemaker Policy during the 2013 football season.
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive made the announcement on Friday.
The fine was due to the cowbells that Bulldog fans ring during games. The league allows them in games, but can only be used at certain times during the game.

Starkville boys adjust to defeat talented Holt

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Yellowjackets faced one of Alabama's top ranked teams in Holt at the Joe Horne Christmas Classic.
“We didn’t know much about this team, so early on it was about feeling each other out,” SHS boys coach Greg Carter said. “Once we figured them out, we were able to adjust and we did a pretty good job.”

MSU chief arrested for DUI

Mississippi State University placed university Police Chief Georgia Lindley on paid administrative leave Thursday night, after Starkville police reportedly arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence.

SPD Capt. Frank Nichols said Lindley was arrested Thursday. She posted bond after her arrest and was not booked into Oktibbeha County Jail.

The study, which car insurance website carried out, ranks the states and District of Columbia from first to worst based on statistics pulled from the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
