Bulldogs keep Collins: Defensive coordinator at MSU gets extension

Mississippi State will only have to replace one coordinator this offseason.
The Bulldogs and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins agreed to a 2-year contract extension worth $1.2 million as announced by the team on Monday.

MADISON – It may have been a holiday on Monday, but a trip to Madison wasn't as much fun as the Starkville Yellowjackets thought it would be.
Even though Starkville pulled out a 49-40 victory over Forrest Hill in the Martin Luther King Classic at Germantown High School, the Jackets had to earn every point and make sure they played well enough defensively the entire game.

Bulldogs not changing

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have yet to put together a winning streak in its first four Southeastern Conference games this season.
MSU lost to Kentucky to start, beat Ole Miss, lost on the road at Alabama but then returned home to beat Texas A&M.
The Bulldogs (12-5, 2-2) look to win two-straight when Auburn (8-7, 0-4) comes to town on Wednesday.

Beth’s joyous spirit came into the world on the 17 of January, 1950 as the third child of 7 born to Dr. William Bost and Mrs. Elaine Fields Bost of Starkville, MS.

Mr. Marion E. Hodges, 85, retired truck driver, died 1/19/14 at his residence in Mathiston.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, 1/22/14, at the First Baptist Church in Mathiston, MS with burial to follow in the Sapa Cemetery in Webster County. Rev. Wade Stevens officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, 1/21/14 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora.

Billy Joe Box

January 20, 2014

Billy Joe Box, 76, a retired furniture manufacturing supervisor, passed away Saturday January 18, 2014 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Mr. Box was born September 21, 1937 in Choctaw County, MS. He was a member of the Chester Baptist Church and served 23 years as a member of the Army National Guard.

County to craft strategic plan

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors will hold a county strategic planning session at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse.

The session will serve as a county-focused follow up to a November joint strategic planning session between the city of Starkville and Oktibbeha County.
