Bulldog women don't hit boards, lose to rival Rebels

OXFORD – Ole Miss got eight more offensive rebounds that Mississippi State did Thursday night.
The 19th was the biggest of the night.
Ole Miss’ Kenyotta Jenkins put back a miss with 0.8 seconds left in overtime that proved to be the game-winner as the Bulldogs fell 87-85 at Tad Smith Coliseum.
“As I told my team, in hindsight that one’s on me,” MSU head coach Vic Schaefer said.

SHS honors 2013 football team at banquet

It was about celebrating the present and looking forward to the future on Wednesday night during the Starkville High School football banquet.
The Yellowjackets were recognized by the coaching staff and several awards were given out during the event held at the Travis Outlaw Center at the Starkville Sportsplex.

SHS sharpens bowling skill with Neshoba match

The Starkville High School bowling team took to the lanes and a tough opponent was there to meet it it in the Neshoba Central Rockets.
It was another challenge to help get the Yellowjackets in shape for the postseason.

Mayor offers State of State response

January 23, 2014

Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman became the first mayor in Mississippi history to respond to a governor’s State of the State address, according to the Mississippi Democratic Trust.

The trust’s director, Brandon Jones, said he thought Wiseman “knocked it out of the park.”

Equality resolution draws praise, concern

An equality resolution Starkville’s Board of Aldermen unanimously approved on its consent agenda on Tuesday has been called everything from controversial to a victory for gay rights groups.

Starkville Chief Administrative Officer Taylor Adams simply calls it practical.

Sturgis Rally returning - City, Rally board negotiate terms

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Board has confirmed plans to bring its rally back to Sturgis Aug. 15-17 at Dianne Jackson Memorial Park after a three-year hiatus, with plans to sign a finalized contract with the town Feb. 4.

GSDP banquet sold-out again

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership will hold its annual banquet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday at Mississippi State University’s Hunter Henry Center. Tickets for the event are sold out for the third year in a row, leaving a waiting list despite GSDP efforts to accommodate the growing numbers.

Bench boosts Bulldogs in win

Mississippi State has leaned on Craig Sword and Gavin Ware many times this season.
On Wednesday, that wasn’t the case.
Sword and Ware combined for just 10 points, but the Bulldogs held on to beat Auburn 82-74 inside Humphrey Coliseum.
“(This was) really a good win for our program and our team,” MSU head coach Rick Ray said. “I was happy with the way our guys handled some adversity.”

State mixes, matches at point guard position

Mississippi State has had to mix and match at the point guard position the last two games.
True freshman point guard I.J. Ready has been sidelined the last two games with a concussion he suffered last Wednesday night against Alabama.
He missed Saturday’s win against Texas A&M and an 82-74 victory over Auburn on Wednesday night.

MSU, Ole Miss women set to meet in Oxford

Ole Miss point guard Valencia McFarland has been a thorn in the side of the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the last couple of seasons.
The Bulldogs meet McFarland and the Rebels once again in Oxford tonight.
Even though Ole Miss has yet to win a Southeastern Conference game in five tries, MSU coach Vic Schaefer said McFarland makes it a very dangerous opponent.
