Getting the bounce: Alwal sinks winning shot as MSU upsets Vanderbilt

The bounce went the way of Martha Alwal and the Mississippi State Bulldogs Sunday afternoon.
Alwal took a shot that hit the rim and finally fell down through the net with 3.3 seconds remaining in the game and the Bulldogs upset the 16th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores 64-62 at Humphrey Coliseum.

Bulldogs cap weekend by beating Catamounts

Coach John Cohen learned a good bit about his Mississippi State Bulldogs this weekend.
Mississippi State was originally supposed to play Hofstra, but due to winter weather around the south and on the east coast, it couldn't make the trip to Starkville and there was a switch in opponents.
The Bulldogs instead played the Western Carolina Catamounts.

Anna McKell had to sit on the bench with a shoulder injury while the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers were making their run in the postseason last year.
Although she wished there had been a way to contribute for the Lady Vols in 2013, McKell was patient and made sure she was healthy before resuming her basketball career.

Bulldogs get first win of baseball season

Timely hitting.
That was key for the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday.
MSU pounded out nine hits on the way to a 6-1 win over Western Carolina at Dudy Noble Field for the first win of the season.
"We finally got some baseballs to fall for us and created a little bit of offense," MSU head coach John Cohen said. 

Commodores pose challenge for the Bulldog women

The Mississippi State women's basketball team has come away with some nice wins at home in the Southeastern Conference this season.
Progress has been made for the Bulldogs with victories over Missouri 69-62 and Georgia 80-67 at Humphrey Coliseum.
