Patsy was the beloved mother, wife, and friend to many. She died at Oktibbeha County Hospital at age 76. Patsy was born in Chunky, MS, the daughter of Ellis and Christel McGee. She graduated from Hickory High School in Hickory, MS and East Central Jr. College of Decatur, MS.

Winifred "Winnie" Allene Forsyth Boykin, 67, passed away at her residence in Maben August 15, 2014.  She shaped the lives of many young people while she was a teacher with Oktibbeha County Schools, where she taught for 30 years.

Player evaluation key for Jackets at jamboree

Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell is looking for a few good men today.
When his Yellowjackets face fellow Class 6A member Terry in jamboree action at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium, Mitchell sees it as an evaluation tool.
Mitchell admits that he does not know much about Terry, but the opponent won't be the most important thing on his mind at 5 p.m.

SA tops Noxapater 34-0 in two-quarter jamboree

Starkville Academy head football coach Jeff Terrill was happy to see his team respond and do well in the first chance for the Volunteers to go against an opponent Friday night.
Even though Starkville Academy found it to be easy at times during a 34-0 two-quarter jamboree victory over Noxapater, Terrill warned not to get too excited over the outcome.

Action in Eupora was to Graham's approval

EUPORA – The lights were on, the pads were on and two teams were present.
Even though there was not a win or loss on the line Friday night, it was still football competition to be had and Eupora head coach Junior Graham liked what he saw.

East Webster's Keller has good scrimmage

MABEN – East Webster head coach Doug Wilson knew he had to get Chase Keller involved in the offense.
So he decided to let the linebacker try his hand at running back.
That move paid off Friday night.
Keller set up his 2-yard touchdown with a big 46-yard scamper as the Wolverines went on to beat Hamilton 21-13 in a jamboree scrimmage game at home.

Bulldogs' schedule intriguing

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will enter year three of the coach Rick Ray era with a better non-conference schedule than in the past.
For the Southeastern Conference portion of the schedule, it promises to be intriguing.
The SEC released conference basketball games on Friday via the new SEC Network.

City issues boil order for Greenbrier

The city of Starkville has issued a precautionary boil water alert for the Greenbrier Subdivision, effective until at least Monday.
A city spokesperson said the action was necessary because the system lost pressure due to a damaged water line.

City may ban pets from cemeteries - Alderman planning to propose law change at Tuesday meeting

Even if all dogs go to heaven, one Starkville alderman would prefer they stay out of local cemeteries.

Ward 5 Alderman Scott Maynard is proposing a change to Starkville’s code of ordinances that would ban people from bringing dogs or other domesticated animals to at least city owned cemeteries — if not all cemeteries in the city limits.
