Bringing the defense: Scoring points will be hard for SHS, Noxubee County

There are reasons for Starkville High School football fans will want to be present at Yellowjacket Stadium tonight.
It will be the season opener for the Starkville Yellowjackets and will also be the first outing on the new all-artificial turf field at SHS.
With the potential of the Jackets having a pretty good team, head coach Jamie Mitchell believes that will bring out some people as well.

The Starkville Academy Volunteers will be calling on their enhanced level of experience tonight as they kick off the 2014 football season by welcoming Lamar School to J.E. Logan field.

Choctaw County is one of those teams and coach Adam Dillinger is more than ready to turn on the lights in Ackerman to see what his current crop of Chargers brings to the table.

Mississippi State didn't have any players on the Coaches Preseason All-Southeastern Conference first team.
The teams were unveiled on the new SEC Network Thursday. Both commentators on the network felt like a couple of Bulldogs may have been snubbed.

SA offense strikes before lightning does

Starkville Academy saw hard work come to fruition Thursday evening as the junior varsity Volunteers secured a 12-6 victory over visiting Winston Academy.
For the last week, SA has been working on a little combination involving quarterback Griffin Little and Taylor Arnold and after holding the Patriots to three and out, Starkville Academy tested it out. 

Bulldogs open the season tonight against Cyclones

Mississippi State soccer coach Aaron Gordon won't apologize about a tough non-conference schedule.
When it comes to playing in the Southeastern Conference, Gordon wanted to have as many early tests as possible to get ready.
The season starts tonight for the Bulldogs when they take on Iowa State from the Big 12 Conference. The match begins at 7 p.m. at the MSU Soccer Field.

Lady Vols compete, but edged at home

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers lost a tough soccer match to Jackson Academy at home Thursday, but Hannah Huddleston still had a reason to be encouraged.
Moments after suffering a 1-0 defeat to JA, Huddleston went to several of her Starkville Academy teammates, gave them a high five and told them they played well.

French Camp rebuilding after title

FRENCH CAMP – The French Camp Panthers are pretty much starting from scratch.
After winning the Class A State championship last season, the Panthers lost 14 seniors and 12 starters from that team.
French Camp coach Nathan Wright would love to have the type of program that could just "reload," but realistically he knows the more proper word to describe where it stands is "rebuild."

SPD arrests two on burglary counts

A Starkville man is in custody after Starkville police officers arrested him in connection with a rash of reported auto burglaries.

According to an SPD press release, the department added an additional patrol to the Carver Drive area in northwest Starkville on Monday due to an increase in reported auto burglaries. Officers stopped 21-year-old Douglas Wayne Erwin, who was walking in the area.
