Man arrested in assault, arson

December 30, 2014

Starkville Police Department arrested a suspect Monday on suspicion of charges related to aggravated assault and attempted first-degree arson.
Officers went to 200 Hartness Street in Starkville at 11:09 p.m Sunday after 911 dispatchers received complaints of shots fired in the area.

Police, fire report quiet holiday roads

Starkville and Oktibbeha County law enforcement and fire officials report a relatively quiet Christmas week this year, with few felonies, no significant fires and overall calls comparable to the same time frame in years past.

Local churches set to host Watch Night services

These services, which typically begin about 10 p.m. serve to put away the past and prepare for the future, said Rev. Tyrone Stallings of New Zion U.M. Church.

Breanna Richardson showed on Monday night that she is more than just an inside threat for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
Richardson hit both of her field goal attempts from three-point range and finished with 14 points to help No. 19 MSU to a 83-26 victory over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in front of 2,955 at Humphrey Coliseum.

Officials: Ring in new year safely

Brandon Hemphill says the biggest mistake people make when it comes to fireworks is underestimating them.
He’s the manager at Orbit Fireworks on Highway 182 just east of Starkville, and while July 4 is still some months away, many also shoot fireworks for New Year’s Eve. And when customers come in, he said, sometimes he hears stories that make him fear for their safety.
