Johnson familiar with Mississippi State football staff

Brian Johnson is familiar with the Mississippi State coaching staff.
Johnson played at Utah when current MSU head coach Dan Mullen and co-offensive coordinators Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy were on the staff.
That's why when the opportunity to reunite with those coaches became a possibility, Johnson jumped on it.
He was hired as the new quarterbacks coach in February.

Richardson confident, MSU plays at Georgia

Breanna Richardson played one of her better games of the season on Thursday night for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
With 17 points in an 81-74 overtime loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, it was only one point off the career-high of 18 that Richardson had at Ole Miss.
Richardson chose not to focus on the points she scored, but the ones she didn't get against the Wildcats.

Madison Central edges Grenada for North 6A title

Action in the Class 6A North Championship came down to the wire.
Madison Central and Grenada took the game down to the very last second and as the buzzer sounded, it was the Jaguars coming out as champions with a 46-45 win.
The title game was hosted by Starkville High School, but the Yellowjackets were not a part of the final after being knocked off by Grenada 61-43 on Friday night.

Bulldogs come back to edge Spartans 4-2

Daniel Garner started getting himself mentally and physically prepared to enter the ballgame in the sixth inning.
The moved paid off.
The Mississippi State redshirt freshman had a pinch hit RBI single in the eighth inning that proved to be the game winner as the 18th-ranked Bulldogs beat Michigan State 4-2 Friday night in The Diamond Classic presented by Polk's Meat Products.

Grenada ends season for SHS boys

A chance to appear in the Class 6A North championship game and advance towards the state tournament was on the line Friday evening when the Starkville Yellowjackets and Grenada Chargers tipped off at the SHS gymnasium.
In the end, the shots did not fall for the Jackets way and it was the Chargers who got the 61-43 victory and meets Madison Central tonight for the North title.

MSU looks to end streak at Missouri

A year ago Mississippi State lost 13 games in a row in Southeastern Conference play.
After Thursday night's four-point loss to Tennessee at home, the Bulldogs pushed this season's high losing skid to 10 games.
Most coaches may be very concerned with a losing streak in year two, but second-year Bulldog head coach Rick Ray isn't.

Jackets win in Garner's debut

Starkville High School baseball coach Travis Garner had watched the development of junior pitcher Colbey Rivers during the offseason.
Garner rewarded Rivers' progress by giving him an opening day start.
"I've been waiting to pitch the first game for a while," Rivers said.

SA baseball wins first game

The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their first game of the season with a 7-2 victory in front of the home crowd over Bayou Academy.

Susan Kean Moates,  long time resident of West Point, Mississippi, passed away at the Waterford in Ridgeland, Mississippi on February  27th  2014  . Mrs. Moates was 94 years old.  She grew up in the small community of Sessums, Mississippi, seven miles from the Mississippi State Campus,  where her father had settled after moving from Canada.
