Fatherhood brings joy to Smith

Preston Smith shows a smile when asked about winning the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week three straight times.
His face lights up in a different way when asked about something else.
The Mississippi State defensive end became a father last December, and it's obvious that she means more to him than football.

Vols continue work during open date

Football might not have taken place on J.E. Logan Field Friday evening, but that has not stopped the Volunteers from working hard.
"During the bye week, we focus on sharpening fundamentals and getting some people well," Starkville Academy coach Jeff Terrill said. "This really couldn't have come at a better time."

Sometimes preparation for a cross country meet brings with it some sweat and some tears.
On Saturday, Starkville High School runner Shanika Musser was all smiles.
Musser was able edge Tupelo's Savannah Hudgins right at the finish line to secure 13th place and provide valuable points for her team.

Irene Jones Rogers

More than ninety eight years of love, happiness and joy came to a close on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 3:45 a.m for Mrs. Irene Jones Rogers. She was born February 14, 1916 in Starkville, MS to Mr. and Mrs. Elmira Jones. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Mr. David Rogers.

Aline A. Fortin Pankey

Aline A. Fortin Pankey, 81, passed away on October 17, 2014 at Meridian Specialty Hospital in Meridian, MS.  She was a retired line worker with Garan, Inc. Her religion was Catholic. She was truly an angel here on earth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adelard Fortin and Blanche Gagne' Fortin.

On any given night, any one of the top three horses for the Yellowjackets can have a big game and impress everyone in the stands. Starter Jacquez Horsley and third string back Avery Brown have had their big games this year.

Titans show second half fight in loss

COLUMBUS – After starting out a bit slow in the first half, East Oktibbeha found some spark in the second half.
While it was not enough to edge out the Panthers of West Lowndes, who took the game 46-8, Titans coach Kylan Tippett is proud of his guys' drive and determination to never give up.

Eupora remains undefeated with 38-14 win at Okolona

OKOLONA – The Eupora Eagles had no problem going on the road to pick up a Class 2A, Region 4 victory Friday night.
Eupora put up 24 first-half points and defeated the Okolona Chieftains 38-14.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the division.

MSU's red zone defense starts to get respect from opponents

Many expected the LSU student section to meet Mississippi State with a level of hostility on Sept. 20.
It did for the most part, but then the Bulldogs did something that drew respect from the rowdy Tiger crowd. The Bulldogs made a goal line stand on that September day.

Yellowjackets ready for North State swim meet

It's going to be a long day of swimming today for the Starkville High School Yellowjackets.
The Class 6A North State meet takes place at the Courthouse Pool in Flowood. After a 9:30 a.m. warmup, the meet begins at 11 a.m.
With 500 swimmers in the meet, SHS swim coach Angela Hobart expects it to take a while.
