Starkville Academy loses to Pillow in soccer

It was a good start of the second half for the Starkville Academy girls soccer team Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Volunteers got what they wanted with a goal to break a 0-0 deadlock at halftime and things appears to be moving in a positive direction.

However, Starkville Academy allowed three unanswered goals and lost a 3-1 decision to Pillow Academy at the Starkville Sportsplex.

It has been talked about for over a year and dreamt about considerably longer. On Wednesday the dream of expanding Davis Wade Stadium took the final step toward becoming a reality with the official announcement of $75 million expansion.

MSU-Meridian marks 40 years

For Lisa Sollie, it’s worth a 198-mile round trip to Starkville to provide Mississippi State University’s ice cream for the right kind of party.

Sollie, project coordinator in recruiting and marketing for MSU-Meridian, said the MSU Student Association in Meridian makes a point of securing MSU’s ice cream for a “Welcome Back” week.

Zoning board: Church needs more parking

The Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend approval for repurposing a Whitfield Street commercial building as a place of worship for Tribe Judah Ministries, adding an extra condition to address parking issues.

Mullen excited about MSU expansion plans

Football coach Dan Mullen stepped on to the Mississippi State campus and challenged fans to show up.

He vowed that if they showed up, things would change.

For 16-consecutive home games, State fans have sold out Davis Wade Stadium, proving they were committed to supporting their Bulldogs.

Noxubee a nemesis for SHS

Noxubee County has been a nemesis for not only the Starkville Yellowjackets, but also football coach Jamie Mitchell.

The Tigers, who invade Yellowjacket Stadium Friday night, have beaten Starkville the last two seasons. The Jackets lost a 33-20 decision in Macon last season and 14-7 at home in 2010.

Hutchinson finds cycling to be own niche

For Tyler Hutchinson, he found his own in niche in fairly unknown sport in the south.
