Consolidation to cost 23 teaching jobs

As Oktibbeha County School District’s time runs shorter — with its state-mandated consolidation with Starkville School District taking effect July 1, 2015 — so too is time for some of the county district’s teachers and administrators. Exactly how many OCSD faculty won’t make the cut is now becoming a clearer picture.

DAK FILES LAWSUIT

A Mississippi State spokesperson says quarterback Dak Prescott is suing an apparel company for using his likeness without permission.
Columbus television station WCBI reported that a lawsuit has been field in the Oktibbhea County Circuit Court asking a judge to stop Christian Matthew from printing and selling shirts that say “Dak Attack” and “Dak Dynasty.”

Donations, volunteers up for Red Kettle campaign

The Starkville Salvation Army is halfway through its 2014 Red Kettle Campaign and on track to meet its goal for this year.
As of Thursday morning, The Salvation Army was 56 percent of the way to the $40,000 goal set for this year, said Katie Walker, Service Center Manager of the Starkville Salvation Army. Last year’s drive fell short of the $40,000 goal by about $3,000.

Romney to speak at MSU

Mississippi State University will host 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney at 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium as part of the MSU Global Lecture Series. However, Romney’s appearance is just the latest in a series of noted speakers from within the upper echelons of American leadership to appear at MSU.

Suspect arrested after police chase

A Holly Springs man is behind bars after a reported break-in Tuesday at the Pointe led to a vehicular, then on-foot pursuit along Blackjack Road.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brett Watson said deputies arrested Raphael A. Woods, 23, of 150 Rust Avenue in Holly Springs on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling, burglary breaking of an inner door, domestic violence and felony fleeing.

Holiday Bazaar revenues increase

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership (GSDP) has declared the 42nd Annual Holiday Bazaar held Dec. 3 and 4 at the Starkville Sportsplex a major success, with gross revenue growing by an estimated $20,000 compared with last year.

City seeking missing truck

December 10, 2014

The city of Starkville is seeking public assistance to help locate a missing landscaping truck.
Starkville Chief Administrative Officer Taylor Adams said at a Tuesday morning press conference that the city realized the vehicle went missing last week.

Christmas concert at McComas set to feature local musicians

McComas Hall will be filled with the sounds of Christmas Thursday when local musician Stephanie Jackson brings her 2014 Mississippi Christmas concert to Starkville.
The 7 p.m. concert will bring together musicians from all over Oktibbeha County to perform a variety of Christmas music, arranged by Jackson.
