Game adds to vibe at annual SAAC gala

There was something for everyone Saturday night at Starkville Area Art’s Council’s annual Art’s Gala. The dinner, dancing and auction were enhanced by the addition of the MSU vs. LSU football game playing in the ballroom.
Bekah Sparks, co-chair of the gala planning committee, felt like once the game was turned on, the energy in the room became more excited.

Elena Hagemeier, who received a box from OCC when she was living in an orphanage in Russia, will be speaking about how receiving that box changed her life on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Outreach Center of First Baptist Church.

UNA — Clay County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) deputies, in conjunction with Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, arrested two Una residents Monday, after investigators executed a search warrant that allegedly yielded about 2 pounds of marijuana.

Honors College to present play in outdoor ‘Greek’ style

Love, lust, revenge and tragedy will overtake Griffis Hall next week as part of the Shackouls Honors College’s Classical Week.
“Medea,” the Greek tragedy by Euripides will be performed at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25 on the patio behind Griffis Hall in Zacharias Village.
The story centers around Medea, a woman seeking recent for the deeds of her husband, said director Donna Clevinger.

New design standards gain alderman approval

The Starkville Board of Aldermen approved a modified version of a minimum design standards ordinance for building facades and parking lot surfacing with a 5-2 vote at its Tuesday meeting.

Messages of pain, strength displayed at MSU Drill Field

Survivors of violence and abuse let their messages be heard this week as the Clothesline Project took its place on the Mississippi State University Drill Field.
Individuals who have been assaulted or abused had the opportunity to paint their message onto a t-shirt to be displayed on campus for passersby to see.
