The T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability at Mississippi State University is ready to run, walk, roll, stroll, skate or dance its way through a one-mile course with the help of the Starkville community when it hosts its first Fun Run at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

With fall weather beginning to settle in and the reality of a winning Mississippi State University football season in the air, many Starkville residents and transplants will find their way to the MSU campus for the sport’s biggest compliment: tailgating.

It’s been a good year for family weddings. In the summer, we traveled to Texas to see the first of the first cousins once removed (I checked the chart) on Daddy’s side get hitched. This weekend we went eastward to Macon, Ga., to see a chapter close, as the final first cousin on Mama’s branch (not removed at all) tied the knot.

The Mississippi State University Horticulture Club is doing its part to beautify the Starkville community with new plants for the fall season.
The club held a fall plant sale Friday featuring mums, pumpkins, pansies, kale, swiss chard and satsuma trees.

It turns out that some dreams are harder to kill than others.
While cleaning out a bookcase this week, I discovered a list of my personal goals for the fall of 1978. It was tucked into a book titled “Talkin’ Dirty with the Queen of Clean.” Apparently, in those days, I was more concerned with a spotless home than I am today.Â

Starkville native Marisa Baggett is on a mission to bring the art of sushi-making into the average home with her new book, "Sushi Secrets: Easy Recipes for the Home Cook."
A graduate of Starkville High School, Baggett began her culinary career at the age of 22 when she opened The Chocolate Giraffe, a restaurant and catering company.

One doesn’t often hear the words “eat healthy” in the same sentence as the words “state fair," but I am here to testify that it can be done.Â
You might need to use your imagination a little bit — you might need to think outside the box — but that’s not always a bad thing. Neither is lunch at the fair.

— Keep it low in fat. Measure your cooking oils, don’t just pour them freely. Oils are very calorie dense. Use a non-stick skillet to further reduce the fat you use.
— Go very light on the cheese. Opt for small amounts of flavorful cheeses like Parmesan or Romano. Use fat-free ricotta in place of regular ricotta cheese.
