Little did he know his journey to college basketball included playing on the drum line and being a practice player for the women's basketball team.

There are four players that Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer has challenged to give their best effort every night in order for the team to be successful on the court.

On Thursday afternoon before the Bulldogs defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 75-51, Schaefer had a meeting with Martha Alwal, Carnecia Williams, Kendra Grant and Katia May.

MSU puts Alabama away in second half

The Mississippi State Bulldogs played well in the first half of Thursday's women's basketball game against Alabama.

As good as MSU looked in the first half and leading by 10 points at the break, head coach Vic Schaefer couldn't help but feel it could be even better.

Schaefer had that same feeling at Ole Miss two weeks ago.

MSU welcomes tough opponents for Classic

The Mississippi State baseball team will meet a very familiar foe this weekend.

The No. 12 (Collegiate Baseball) Bulldogs host the inaugural Diamond Classic presented by Polk's Meat Products this weekend and one of those opponents will be Samford, which ended MSU's season in 2012.

State (5-0) plays the defending Big Ten Conference Champion Purdue (2-2) today and Saturday at 6 p.m.

Starkville High’s bowling team has been quite busy in the last few weeks.

Including winning the Region 2 championship in Tupelo, the Yellowjackets have played multiple practice games in preparation for the next leg of their journey.

A trip to Flowood is up next for the team to compete in the State Tournament.

MSU women host Alabama

There was a measure of confidence growing within members of the Mississippi State women's basketball team with wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas and Missouri.

Bulldog head coach Vic Schaefer wants his team to start moving back in that direction.

During last Sunday's loss to LSU, Schaefer saw some of his players drop their head and said after the game that can not happen.

Hard work leads SA's Evans to North Alabama

The hard work of Starkville Academy girls soccer player Tiffany Evans has been recognized.

At her position as a center midfielder for the Lady Volunteers, Evans had to think quick and react on her feet.

The Starkville Academy Volunteers were hit with adversity on Monday when one of their senior players went down with an injury early in their Class AAA soccer match against Pillow Academy.

Even though the Vols had Drew Pellum suffer a broken leg and not be able to finish the season, they rallied together to pick up a 4-0 victory over Pillow Academy and advanced in the postseason.
