Turnovers cost Yellowjackets in a 54-51 loss

The Starkville High School boys' basketball team gave itself plenty of opportunities to win, but when it was all said and done, it didn't capitalize.

The Yellowjackets dropped a 54-51 final to Aberdeen inside the Beehive.

"We had too many turnovers," SHS head coach Greg Carter said.

The Jackets turned the ball over 16 times, but shot 55 percent from the field.

East Webster sweeps Ackerman teams

MATHISTON – The familiarity of playing a rivals proved beneficial for the East Webster Lady Wolverines Tuesday night.

The Lady Wolverines were able to pick up a 48-26 victory over the Ackerman Lady Indians at its home court at the former Wood Junior College gymnasium.

Mississippi State's Jerica James is beginning to get the point.

The sophomore earned her sixth start of the season, the first in Southeastern Conference play for the Bulldogs and played 36 minutes in a 60-46 loss to South Carolina last Sunday.

The Mississippi State men's basketball team have had its fair share of ups and downs this season.
The non-conference portion of the schedule has taught head coach Rick Ray and the Bulldogs several things.

MSU has dropped an embarrassing 59-57 loss to Alabama A&M at home on Dec. 30, 2012. The Bulldogs then rebounded with dominating 97-46 win over New Orleans last Thursday.

MSU women struggle to score in 60-46 loss to South Carolina

The Mississippi State women's basketball team ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in scoring offense at 60.5 points going into Sunday's matchup against South Carolina.

The 46 points put up by the Bulldogs against the Gamecocks won't help that standing.

MSU lost a 60-46 decision at Humphrey Coliseum and fell to 0-2 in the league.

Mississippi State's football season started so promising, but when all was said and done it was a tailspin.

The Bulldogs opened the season 7-0 with victories over Southeastern Conference opponents Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee.

It wasn't the type of beginning the Starkville Academy Volunteers wanted to Saturday afternoon's game against Lamar School.

However, the finish was pretty good.

After falling behind their visitors 9-1 early, the Vols shook themselves and rallied for a 52-43 victory at home.
