Volunteers set to face Patriots for a third time

The Starkville Academy Volunteers and Heritage Patriots had become quite familiar with each other by the time the regular season concluded.

As division rivals, the two teams faced each other three times in as many weeks during the regular season and beginning tonight at 5:15 p.m., it will tip one more time in the first round of the Class AAA, Division II playoffs.

Area teams set for tournament

The regular season is over and area teams are now bracing for a time it has worked on all season.

East Webster's Wolverines, the Eupora Eagles and Ackerman Indians have boys and girls squads in Madison this week for the Class 2A, Region 5 Tournament.

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets know what's at stake tonight.

It's down to that time of the season when one loss can end a season abruptly and even though the Lady Jackets have enjoyed a good season with an overall 14-7 record, it won't matter if they don't give a good enough effort against Yazoo City in the first round of the Class 5A, Region 3 Tournament in Canton.

SHS bowlers capture North Regional title

TUPELO – The Starkville High School boys bowling team qualified for the State Tournament for the second-straight year by defeating Tupelo to claim the North Regional championship on Saturday.

SHS and Tupelo were locked in a 2-2 encounter until the Yellowjackets won the last game and the title.

Moore visits MSU, sees changes

It wasn't too long ago when Tyler Moore was getting ready for his only season with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Moore was preparing to talk to a room full of people excited for the upcoming baseball season on Saturday as he was the special guest for MSU's First Pitch/Fan Day celebration at the Palmeiro Center. 

Bulldog Frazier learns from USA experience

The summer was spent playing baseball games at various places in the United States for many of the Mississippi State baseball players.

For junior shortstop Adam Frazier, it was spent playing all over the world. Frazier played for Team USA during the summer and found himself playing in Europe.

Over the last couple of years, the Bulldogs have experienced more and more success under coach John Cohen.

MSU won the Atlanta Regional two years ago and got within one win of making the school's ninth trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The Missouri women's basketball team has a player that certainly has an "Eye" for the basket.

Sophomore Morgan Eye leads the Tigers by scoring 13.9 points per game and is the best 3-point field goal shooter in the nation by hitting 3.9 per outing from long range.

Softball Bulldogs thrive late to beat Panthers

The Mississippi State softball team wants to win the late innings.

That's exactly what they did Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (3-1) beat Georgia State 9-1 in five innings on the third day of Bulldog Kickoff Classic.

MSU entered the fifth inning with a 3-1 lead after the Panther's MeQuilia Franklin stole home on a double steal.
