MSU looks to get back to consistency

The Mississippi State Bulldogs look to get back to being more consistent in the red zone on the offensive side of the ball.

Today, No. 22 (Associated Press) MSU (7-2 overall, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) must do it against a very tough LSU Tiger's defense.

The No. 9 (Associated Press) Tigers (7-2, 3-2) host the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. The game can be seen on ESPN.

Once upon a time, Jamie Mitchell began his coaching career at Saltillo High School.

Mitchell recalls Saltillo being the first place he went to work in 1990 and remained there for a year and a half.

During that time, he got the chance to gain some experience and establish some relationships.

Ackerman travels for next playoff challenge

After shutting out Broad Street 38-0 in the first round, the Ackerman Indians are ready for their next challenge tonight as they are set to square off against defending Class 2A State champions West Bolivar in the second round.

West Bolivar enters Friday night with a 10-2 overall record after winning a close contest with Okolona 49-36.

Bulldogs the next team to invade Tiger Stadium

It is rare for a team to go to Death Valley and come out with a victory.

This week No. 22 (Associated Press) Mississippi Sate (6-2, 3-2) makes the trip to Baton Rouge to take on the No. 9 (Associated Press) LSU Tigers (7-2, 3-2) in Tiger Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN.

The Tigers are 36-2 in Saturday night games in Tiger Stadium under head coach Les Miles.

Starkville Christian girls win in overtime

Sometimes it's a good thing to take the advice of a brother.

Even though Hannah Buckner was struggling at times hitting her shot for the Starkville Christian School Lady Cougars, her brother and coach Luke encouraged her to keep shooting.

Hannah responded by hitting a basket just to the right of the goal to tie the game against Central Academy and sent it into overtime.

Bulldog Steele ready for pressure

A great amount of pressure will fall on the shoulders on Jalen Steele this season.
The Mississippi State junior point guard seems to like the pressure.

"In high school and middle school, there has always been pressure," Steele said. "There has always been pressure to perform. The more pressure there is, the louder the crowd and it makes me come out more. I like it."

Alwal ready for next step with Lady Bulldogs

Martha Alwal was so impressive with her defense in her first season at center for the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs that she made the All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team.

The 82 blocked shots for Alwal last season led the league and was the third-most in a single season for MSU. She enters her sophomore year already fifth on the school's all-time swat list.

The Starkville Cowboys 7-8 and 9-10 age groups may have won the Powerhouse Super Bowl.

For coach Rodney Johnson, it was more than just winning a championship last Sunday.

He was proud to see the growth of his teams during the course of the season.
