Bulldog linebackers ready for challenge

Saturday Mississippi State fans had their first glimpse inside Dan Mullen’s 2012 Bulldogs. What was seen was a poised first team offense and a tenacious defense all around. 

In fact, the defense clearly won the day with pressure up front and tight defense in the secondary. 

An official eye of the Jackets proves helpful

It was an official view at the Starkville High School football practice field Saturday morning.

The Yellowjackets went through an approximate two-hour scrimmage which was complete with officials and chain managers.

Starkville Academy drops two games at tournament

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers found themselves on the brink of elimination from the SA Invitational.

Even though the Lady Vols scored four runs in the top of the third inning against Heritage Academy, they could not avoid the inevitable and lost 9-5 at the Starkville Sportsplex to be eliminated.

MSU youth must emerge on front

The Mississippi State offensive line has been one group that continues to draw question marks as fall camp opens.

With returning starters Gabe Jackson and Dillon Day, the Bulldogs have a talented young group to serve as the strong point up front. With the return of Tobias Smith from injury, MSU has some experience to build around up front.

Coach Dan Mullen and the Mississippi State Bulldogs opened fall camp on Thursday afternoon and it didn’t come a moment too soon.

SA loses softball outing to Central Academy

Starkville Academy entered Thursday afternoon with a lot of confidence and a chance to grab the first win of the season.

The Lady Volunteers came unraveled in the latter innings and fell to Central Academy 12-1 in five innings at Lady Volunteer Field.

The Lady Vikings scored two in the top of the first aided by Sadie Lindsey's infield RBI single.

Love sends Lady Jackets to volleyball event with confidence

The Starkville High School volleyball team opens the season at the Set It Off Challenge Friday and Saturday in Jackson.

However, head coach Lauren Love will not be making the trip.

After having a baby last Friday, Love has to stay behind as the Lady Yellowjackets begin competition.

Christy commits to MSU in football

The year of 2013 is shaping up to be a good one for the Mississippi State football program when it comes to recruiting wide receivers.

On Wednesday evening, Dutchtown (La) High School’s Shelby Christy joined Deandre Woods and B.J. Hammond by committing to the Bulldogs.

Lady Volunteers compete in softball loss

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers took advantage of a scoring opportunity during Wednesday's game against Pillow Academy that made for a more competitive situation.

After leaving the bases loaded in the first inning and didn't score, the Lady Vols were able to get two runs on two hits in the third.

Mississippi State's players report to campus today with the thought of fall football on their minds.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs begin their month long training session gearing up for the 2012 football season. There are question that remain to be answered, but MSU head coach Dan Mullen feels he has the players to get the job done this fall.
