MSU returns to the friendly confines of Humphrey Coliseum

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have struggled out of the gate in most of their basketball games away from Humphrey Coliseum this year
.
The good thing for coach Rick Ray and his team, it returns to Starkville tonight for a non-conference matchup.

Mississippi State (2-5) hosts the University of Texas-San Antonio (3-4) at 7 p.m.

Berryhill of SHS signs to continue career at JCJC

Carolina Berryhill may be hanging up her Starkville Yellowjacket jersey after this season, but it will not be long before she dresses out in a new set of colors.

On Monday, the Lady Jacket soccer player signed a national letter of intent with Jones County Junior College.

The senior is excited about the opportunity to play for the Bobcats and coach Delores Deasley.

DRIVE FOR FIVE: SHS completes special season with fifth crown

JACKSON – When Jamie Mitchell took over the Starkville High School football program three years ago, he was trying to build something special.

He saw the hard work pay off Saturday night.

The Yellowjackets (12-3) beat the Pascagoula Panthers (11-3) 28-11 for the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State championship on the campus of Jackson State.

Yellowjackets swarm on defense for victory

JACKSON – Time after time, it has been said that defense wins championships.

Starkville High did its part to reinforce that adage on Saturday night as the Yellowjackets held the Pascagoula Panthers to 11 points in a 28-11 win and claimed the 5A State championship.

SHS piles up 222 yards on ground to help cause

JACKSON – Most high school football teams rely on the running game.
It was no different Saturday night in Starkville's 28-11 victory over Pascagoula in the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State championship game.

The Yellowjackets picked up 222 of their 304 total yards on the ground.

Thinking championship: Week by week approach gives SHS chance at title

Now the Starkville Yellowjackets can think about it.

At the beginning of the season, SHS football coach Jamie Mitchell downplayed a potential return to the Class 5A State championship game because of all the pressure that comes with it.

The Jackets decided to take things week by week and deal with each opponent as they appeared on the schedule.

Eupora shut out by Bassfield in Class 2A

JACKSON – The Eupora Eagles may have lost a 35-0 decision to the Bassfield Yellow Jackets in the Class 2A State championship Friday, but Eupora coach Junior Graham had nothing but good things to say about his team.

His team may have come in second place, but when looking at Friday’s game and the entire season, he was proud of his guys and their efforts.

French Camp loses thriller to Stringer

JACKSON – Friday’s class A state championship game was nothing short of thrilling as for four quarters French Camp and Stringer went back and forth scoring with the Red Devils, ultimately coming out on top with a 20-17 victory.

Providence, MSU similar with rosters

Lady Jackets win with defense

WEST POINT – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets came out with a defensive mindset from the very beginning against the West Point Lady Green Wave Friday night.
