SSD: New test will aid prep for next MCT

The Mississippi Department of Education has released data showing percentages of students who earned proficient or advanced scores on the Mississippi Curriculum Test, Second Edition (MCT2), showing minor but consistent growth across all grades tested in the Starkville School District.

Locals asked to help Isaac victims

SHS picks up 28-0 road win against Tupelo

TUPELO – Caleb Wilson and the Starkville Yellowjackets turned in a breakout performance against the Golden Wave with 28 points and 334 yards of offense picking up the first win of the season 28-0 in Tupelo.

The sophomore quarterback played with poise beyond his years on Friday night as he threw for three touchdowns on an 8-for-12 effort for 180 yards.

Big plays difference for Ackerman

ACKERMAN – The Ackerman High School football team could not find its offense, but found two big plays on special teams to ensure a win.

The Indians beat Choctaw County rival French Camp 14-3 Friday night to improve to 3-0 for the season at Dale Davidson Field.

The Ackerman offense struggled early on and fumbled the ball on its second play from scrimmage. It had four fumbles in the contest.

East Webster proves to be too much for Weir

MABEN – The East Webster Wolverines proved to be too much for the Weir Lions as the Wolverines started their three-game home stretch with a 41-0 victory over the Lions Friday night.

East Webster improved its record to 3-0 for the season.

Starkville Academy loses 25-14 on road

SENATOBIA – The Starkville Academy Volunteers couldn't get a 14-12 half-time lead to stand up and lost a 25-14 decision to Magnolia Heights School on Friday night.

Starkville Academy, which fell to 1-2, won the statistical battle, but it did not equal out to a victory on the scoreboard.

Eupora beats Winona 22-13

WINONA – The Eupora Eagles totaled 269 yards and beat Winona 22-13 Friday night.

Vandy Smith got Eupora going when he scored on a 54-yard run in the first quarter.

Justin Lewis connected from 34 yards to give Eupora a 10-0 lead in the first quarter.
