It hasn't been the start of the football season that Starkville High School and Starkville Academy wanted.
For two teams that played for state championships last season, it's somewhat surprising to see the
programs a combined 1-3 after two games.
Mississippi State is set for the opening to the 2012 season with Jackson State coming to town this Saturday. On Monday, head coach Dan Mullen took to the podium to talk about the start of the season of college football.
It will also be a return to the field for offensive lineman Tobias Smith.
Much has been written about Mississippi State junior quarterback Tyler Russell and the opportunity before him this weekend.
It will be his chance to put his stamp on the program, but in order for the talented young signal caller to have success, heâ€™ll need the Bulldog receivers to handle their end of the bargin.
The Starkville Historic Preservation Commission will discuss a potential final draft of â€śStandards for Starkvilleâ€™s Historic Districtsâ€ť as well as a new authorization form, payment for the standards and plans for future meetings at its 5:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting in City Hallâ€™s building department.
It's important to senior Jamiyah Covington to see the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets win volleyball matches.
When the opportunity arises, Covington likes to contribute to Starkville's success whenever she can.
Covington ended two of Monday's three sets against the Caledonia Lady Confederates with the winning points as the Lady Jackets swept a 3-0 victory at the Beehive.
The Boys and Girls Club of Starkville is stepping up and doing its part to help area students prepare for a successful future.
While no portion of Isaac is expected to make direct impact on the Starkville area, emergency planners are preparing for any adverse conditions the storm brings with it.
Regardless of where the storm travels, projections indicate Starkville and Oktibbeha County will see significant rainfall as well as the potential for straight-line winds and tornadoes.

Visitation will be held 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at West Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Emma Louise Caradine Davis, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the Care Center in Aberdeen.
Graveside services will be held noon Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Hatchett Cemetery in the Caradine Community with Rev. Steve Lampkin and Rev. Eric Davis officiating.
Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Houston Funeral Home.
Mr. Rodney Wayne Smith, 38, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buck Buchanan and Rev. Larry Yarber officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Garden in West Point.
