Starkville receives Class 4 fire rating

Starkville officials announced Tuesday that the city’s fire protection rating has improved from a Class 5 to a Class 4 after a July inspection by the Mississippi State Ratings Bureau.

Proper step forward: Lady Vols pick up first win of season

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers put an end to a four-game soccer losing streak and earned its first victory of the season by defeating the Washington School Generals Tuesday 6-0 at the Starkville Sportsplex.

The win came on SA head coach Robert Gardner’s birthday and puts their record at 1-4 for the season.

Barber leads, teaches SA

Starkville Academy's Mary Austin Barber's senior year on the diamond has been one filled with a lot of emotion and opportunities for her to lead and teach.

The Lady Volunteers fell 13-2 to Heritage Academy Tuesday afternoon at Lady Volunteer Field.

Barber started in the circle for the Lady Vols and saw a 7th grader play in her usual shortstop spot.

Man killed after stabbing Oktibbeha deputy

Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department authorities shot and killed a man Monday after he stabbed a deputy multiple times.

OCSD Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said deputies were dispatched to Cannon Road at 5:47 p.m. after receiving a report of a man standing in the road and brandishing a knife.

MSU on the Move aims for healthier campus life

MSU on the Move, a program focused on promoting a healthier atmosphere and environment on the MSU campus, kicked off its semester-long initiative with health screenings and a Drill Field celebration ceremony.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will consider calling for a public hearing on adoption of the 2013 city budget at its meeting tonight.
