Neshoba County Fair festivities begin Friday

The countdown to the 123rd installment of Mississippi’s Giant House Party is almost over.

The Neshoba County Fair, a traditional week-long event featuring everything from horse racing to carnival rides to speeches from Mississippi politicians, starts Friday.

Appeals board sets C Spire discussion

The Starkville Board of Adjustments and Appeals will hold a public hearing at 4 p.m. Wednesday in City Hall’s building department for two variance requests C Spire Wireless is making for a cellular tower near the Stark Crossing subdivision.

Justices hearing 152 cases in July Circuit Court term

Oktibbeha County Circuit Court’s July term began Monday and runs through Aug. 3. Judges Lee Coleman, Lee Howard and Jim Kitchens are scheduled to hear 152 cases.

Nearly half of those cases are related to drugs and theft. Forty-one cases involve drug charges — more than one-fourth of the term’s total cases.

New county website streamlines information

Local government and Mississippi State University officials unveiled a new county website which they say will help deliver pertinent information to citizens and serve as a streamlined first impression for outsiders curious about the community.

MSU hoops loses Davis to ACL Injury

Rick Ray and the Bulldogs were excited to get workouts started this summer under the new NCAA rules that allow a more hands-on approach during the offseason.

However, Tuesday that excitement was tempered with the injury to Jacoby Davis.

Starkville's 8-year-olds see successful summer

The Starkville 8-year-old baseball All-Stars had a long and successful summer.

The Starkville Historic Preservation Commission will review a new draft of all the preservation guidelines it has reviewed over the past several months at its meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall’s building department.

County clinic to offer newly required shot

The Oktibbeha County Health Department at 203 Yeates St. will host an immunization clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to provide children and adolescents with the immunizations they need to enter school, including the Tdap vaccination now required for all children entering seventh grade.
