SHS consistent enough for volleyball win

All season Starkville High School has prided itself on consistent volleyball play throughout the entire match.
The Lady Yellowjackets wavered slightly from that style on Tuesday night, but in the end, they managed to pull out the 3-1 victory over Heritage Academy.

The West Point Green Wave were held to three points by the Starkville Yellowjackets last Friday night.
That just doesn't happen.
SHS linebacker Alonzo Flowers had 15 tackles against West Point.

When it comes to playing defense, Flowers had one word to describe why the Jackets are having success in the first three games of the season.

Vols respond to challenge to improve pass coverage

Jeff Terrill issued a challenge to his defense after game one.
While managing to limit Lamar’s rush game, Starkville Academy simultaneously allowed the team to accumulate 326 passing yards. For the head coach, that was unacceptable and the gauntlet was laid down.

There is some pretty good football going on in Starkville right now.
Along with the Mississippi State Bulldogs winning their first two games of the season, the Starkville Yellowjackets and Starkville Academy Volunteers are both 3-0.

Several receivers get football in MSU offense

Jameon Lewis was by far the best receiver on the Mississippi State squad a season ago.
He hauled in 64 catches, the same amount as the second and third best receivers combined, for 923 yards, more than the second and third best receivers combined. Robert Johnson was second on the team with 34 catches for 389 yards, while Malcolm Johnson pulled in 30 catches for 391 yards.

Remembering Jack Cristil: Voice of Bulldogs passes away at 88

“You can wrap it in Maroon and White.”

That phrase gave chills to so many Mississippi State Bulldog fans and it made Jack Cristil famous, not only in Mississippi, but around the nation. The longtime “Voice of the Bulldogs” passed away Sunday at the age of 88 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo of complications from kidney disease and cancer after an extend illness.

Pulley OKs renovations for campuses

ktibbeha County School District approved the final plans and budget for $2.2 million dollars’ worth of renovations for its elementary school at its monthly meeting Monday.

The meeting, which is normally scheduled for the first Monday of each month, was postponed one week due to Labor Day.

When Raj Shaunak was a child living in Kenya, his father had the preamble to the American Constitution and a copy of the Gettysburg Address attached to the refrigerator. 

Today, Shaunak is vice president for workforce and community services at East Mississippi Community College. He said his father believed there were two reasons why America was great.

Danny Carl Dorsey, 50, passed away on September 7, 2014 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS.  He was the Meat Market Manager for Kroger and attended Pinelake Church in Starkville.  He was an Alabama fan and loved motorcycles and he also loved to fish and cook and grill.  He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel S. Dorsey.
