Vols drop the last home match on penalty kicks

Monday marked the last home match for a quartet of Starkville Academy boys soccer players. 
Blake Slaughter, David Cuevas, Peyton Little and Dylan Dempsey put on their Volunteer jerseys for the final time in front of the home crowd for a regular season game.

Huge win causes emotions to spill for MSU's Schaefer

Mississippi State head coach Vic Schaefer took the podium Sunday night with emotion written all over his face.
It was also heard in his voice as he got choked up starting his postgame press conference.
The reason was what happened at Humphrey Coliseum.
The No. 17 Bulldogs knocked off No. 14 Texas A&M 63-61 in overtime – the first victory for Schaefer over his former team.

Vols begin tournament play Monday

Sunday was not a day of rest for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
With an opening round game to be played today at the Class AAA-Division II Tournament looking, coach Bruce Allsup said there were some things that the Vols needed to address.

Starkville and basketball success seem to go hand in hand this season.
That is especially true when you consider the boys team at Armstrong Middle School.
“We went the whole season only losing one game,” Yellowjackets coach Tony Minor said. “It was a really good season that ended with winning the Golden Triangle Athletic Conference Tournament.”

After struggling a season ago at the plate, the Bulldogs are hoping for a better showing this year.

Wes Rea admits that his baseball career at Mississippi State has been one of ups and downs.
After helping the Bulldogs reach the NCAA College World Series in 2013 by hitting .291 with seven home runs, his batting average took a dip to .245 with only five home runs and nine doubles last season.
Rea knows that he is capable of more production than that, so he made the trip to Maryland over the summe

Bulldogs get another chance at the Aggies

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are trying to forget what happened two years ago at home in a women's basketball game against the Texas A&M Aggies.
It was the first time for Vic Schaefer to face his former school as the head coach at MSU and the situation did not go well at all.
The Bulldogs had a difficult time scoring and dropped an 81-33 decision to the Aggies.

West Oktibbeha sweeps final action between rivals in regular season

For the final time, East and West Oktibbeha squared off on the hardwood in a regular season. 
Like the many games that preceded, Saturday evening’s contest was intense and in the end, it was West Oktibbeha successfully defending its home court with the double sweep.

Kelsey Jones may be just a sophomore, but she doesn't want to hear about it. 
On Friday night, Jones provided 31 points as she and the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets took on Madison Central in the final regular season Class 6A, Region 3 contest.
