Former Jacket championship quarterback dies

Family, friends and coaches are mourning the death of former Starkville High School state championship quarterback Surhaven "Moody" Fair.
Fair died on Thursday from what was believed to be a heat-related illness. An official cause of death has not been released.
In 1994, Fair was a backup quarterback and played defensive back for the Yellowjackets as they won the Class 5A State championship.

MSU's Cohen shifts his focus to the offseason

Mississippi State head coach John Cohen was preparing for the College World Series a year ago at this time.
This year the sixth-year head coach is getting a jump on the recruiting process.
The Bulldogs saw their season end at the Lafayette (La.) Regional a couple of weekends ago and Cohen has shifted his focus off the diamond to finding kids to play for him on it.

Bulldogs Pirtle, Woodruff sign with pro teams

Mississippi State's Brandon Woodruff and Brett Pirtle officially signed with their respective Major League Baseball teams on Wednesday.
Woodruff signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in Montana, while Pirtle signed with the Detroit Tigers.

That is exactly what the Starkville Braves are doing this year as they compete statewide as a 9-year-old travel baseball team.

SPRD finishes up one league, starts another for adults

The Starkville Parks and Recreation Department is finishing up one softball league and anticipates the beginning of another.
After the girls softball league completes its regular season this week, end of the year tournament and All-Star competition, the staff at SPRD welcomes the adults to the field.

Starkville High School's Evans signs with MDCC

Starkville High School boys basketball coach Greg Carter says that Mississippi Delta Community College is not only getting a good player in Richard Evans, but an outstanding leader.
Evans signed with Mississippi Delta on Wednesday.
Being that Evans was a point guard for the Yellowjackets, Carter counted on him to be able to run things on the court.

SEC revenue distribution helps MSU

The SEC has showed on the field and in the classroom that it is the one to beat, but it's also a conference many schools would like to join.

Honors keep coming for MSU's Lindgren

Mississippi State's Jacob Lindgren's junior year in baseball just keeps getting better.
The left-handed pitcher was selected to Baseball America's All-American team and was a second team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America as announced on Tuesday.
Lindgren was also selected to the All-Southeastern Conference first team in May.
