Three years ago Tyler Barnes and his family made the move from Louisiana to Mississippi.
Even as a new kid on the block, it did not take long for Barnes to find his niche on the Starkville High football team and it just so happened to involve a little blocking.

Dez Harris entered his senior year of high school ready to help lead his team to a championship.
Harris quarterbacked the McAdory (Ala.) Yellowjackets, but didn't play in his senior year. He suffered a knee injury during a preseason jamboree event, costing him his final year of high school football. 

Cincinnati edges MSU on successful header

One head made all the difference Sunday.
After battling through almost three quarters of the match, Cincinnati's Katy Couperus, with assistance from Jae Atkinson, provided the header from a corner to give the Bearcats a 1-0 victory over Mississippi State University's women's soccer team.

SHS swimming begins season today in Natchez

The Starkville High School swim team may have a few questions when it opens the season today at St. Joseph in Natchez.
Relays will not be one of them.
SHS swimming coach Angela Hobart said relays will be a strong area for the squad, especially with the girls.
"We're looking to do really well in relays," Hobart said. "We have a lot a lot of seniors this year. We're very senior heavy."

State's Ward worked hard for scholarship

DeAndre Ward came to Mississippi State in 2013 without a scholarship.
The sophomore linebacker had no scholarship offers coming out of Wetumpka High School in Alabama. He decided to see if he could walk on at MSU and he made the squad. He played in two games as a true freshman.

The word “hot” could have definitely been used to describe the weather conditions at Starkville Academy on Friday night.
However, the Volunteers also had a hot performance against Lamar, downing the Class AAA champions 42-21 to start the season 1-0.
