Eupora remains focused heading into next season

EUPORA – No one can suggest that the losses for the Eupora Eagles came against weak opposition this past season.
One team is played for a state championship. The other played for the north half title and the third only lost two games this whole season.
That is the resume of the teams that defeated Eupora this year, which quite impressive when you look at the whole picture.

Billups brings Texas team to Mississippi, has success

Coach T.J. Billups wanted to know how his basketball team would respond when leaving the state of Texas and playing in unfamiliar surroundings.
Billups, a former Mississippi State guard and Noxubee County High School coach, certainly knew about the Joe Horne Christmas Classic in Columbus and knew it was worth a phone call to coach Sammy Smith to see if there was a spot left on the schedule.

Lady Jackets use big second half for victory

COLUMBUS – Starkville High School sophomore post player Kelsey Jones picked up two fouls and sat for the majority of the first half against the West Lowndes Lady Panthers on Saturday.
Without their primary scoring threat, it would be understandable to believe the Lady Yellowjacktets would struggle to put up points.

SHS boys perform better, beat Tuscaloosa Central

COLUMBUS – What a difference a day makes. 
After dropping their first game of the Joe Horne Christmas Invitational on Friday, the Starkville Yellowjackets took advantage of tournament play to capture a 64-37 day two victory over Central High from Tuscaloosa.

MSU's Mullen will take time finding defensive coordinator

Dan Mullen's plate has become heavier after the events of last week.
The Mississippi State head coach saw defensive coordinator Geoff Collins leave for the same position at Florida on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are preparing to face Georgia Tech in the Capital One Orange Bowl on New Year's Eve.

COLUMBUS – Teams that score less than 50 points in a basketball game usually don't come out on the winning side.
The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets found that to be true on Friday against the Jim Hill Lady Tigers.
SHS girls coach Kristie Williams didn't see the effort and hustle she wanted and it cost her squad in a 48-43 loss at the Joe Horne Christmas Invitational.

Comeback victory by Vols enough to excite the home crowd

Nothing can get a crowd going quite like a comeback victory.
The Volunteers provided the Starkville Academy fans with plenty of excitement Friday as the team bounced back from a double-digit deficit to defeat visiting Pillow Academy 71-66.

Mississippi State is just looking to get back on the right track.
The Bulldogs have lost four in a row, including a 69-55 decision to Arkansas State earlier this week inside Humphrey Coliseum. MSU began the season 5-0, but has struggled since.

Starkville High School coach Jamie Mitchell won't have to be on the sideline this week for All-Star competition.
