MSU's Gridley off to fast start as freshman in baseball

Ryan Gridley hasn't been awed by the lights of Dudy Noble Field or the expectations some freshmen feel in the Southeastern Conference yet.
The Mississippi State second baseman has handled the transition to college baseball nicely in the two-plus weeks of the 2015 season.

It's just another game for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, or at least that's what they told the media on Monday.
The Bulldogs face their second-straight ranked team tonight, but this is the top-ranked team in the nation.
MSU welcomes No. 1 Kentucky to Humphrey Coliseum for a 6 p.m. tip at Humphrey Coliseum. The game can be seen on SEC Network.

Mississippi State used small ball early and often.
The Bulldogs then got the bats going in the latter innings to roll to an easy victory.
No. 14 MSU pounded out 14 hits and topped Alcorn State 10-2 in a midweek game at Dudy Noble Field Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (9-0) had five bunt singles.

The bullseye on MSU women gets bigger with higher ranking

Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer understands the bullseye on his team is getting bigger and bigger.
A day after the Bulldogs learned they were ranked No. 11 by the Associated Press, they moved up to No. 13 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll.
It was all in advance of Thursday's 6 p.m. tip at No. 2 South Carolina. The game can be viewed on Fox Sports Net South.

The Mississippi State women's basketball team is inching its way to the top 10.
In this week's Associated Press poll, the Bulldogs jumped three places from No. 14 to No. 11.
MSU is the third-highest ranked team in the Southeastern Conference behind No. 2 South Carolina and No. 6 Tennessee. The Bulldogs play the Gamecocks on the road Thursday night.
