Starkville Academy gives pitchers a lift with solid defense

There is a saying that a double play is a pitcher's best friend.
Starkville Academy pitcher Billy McGee would agree with that statement.
It also doesn't hurt to have a diving catch by your left fielder during a game.
The Volunteers came up with several defensive plays and defeated Memphis Home School 5-4 on Saturday.

Brown gets quality start as Bulldogs down 'Cats

Mississippi State has been very successful when Preston Brown has a quality start.
The Bulldogs were 4-0 when Brown has a quality start in his career entering Friday afternoon's game with Arizona.
They left with a 5-0 record.
Brown threw six solid innings and the No. 14 Bulldogs beat Arizona 4-2 at Dudy Noble to kick off another four-game weekend.

On a chilly Friday afternoon, the Volunteers took to the diamond where they defeated Heritage Academy 4-2.

Mississippi State has hung close in almost every loss in Southeastern Conference play this season.
The Bulldogs were never really in the 72-47 loss at Florida in the early part of January. After that, MSU lost six conference games by six points or less.

Mississippi State Athletic Director Scott Stricklin announced a contract extension though the 2018 season for the seventh-year head coach Thursday night at the Central Mississippi Alumni Chapter's 'Evening in Maroon.'

Baseball competition steps up for MSU this weekend

Mississippi State will see a step up in competition this weekend.
The last two weekends saw the Bulldogs play Cincinnati, Miami of Ohio, Marshall and Alabama A&M.
This weekend, the No. 14 Bulldogs will play host to Arizona and Samford.

The weather hasn't been ideal for baseball games and practice so far this month.
Even though the Mississippi State Bulldogs would rather be outside preparing for this weekend's competition against Arizona and Samford, they like the fact there's the Palmeiro Center where they can go inside and get some work done.
