Wolverines win quality games on road

The East Webster Wolverines have developed a "road warrior" type of mentality.
After defeating Eupora 27-7 on the road to close the regular season and clinch the No. 2 seed out of Class 2A, Region 4, the Wolverines were able to get one of their most impressive wins of the season at Baldwyn Friday night 34-7.

The mindset in practice this week was simple for the Starkville Academy Volunteers.
It was win and advance.
“All year we had talked about trying to get to the championship,” said junior Colt Chrestman. “We were reminded of that again this week in practice about accomplishing our goal and getting to where we wanted to be at the start of the season.”

EUPORA – Quarterback Trey Pittman gave the Eupora Eagles everything he had despite playing with injury on Friday night, but the effort was not good enough as the Simmons Blue Devils won a 38-31 decision..

Wilson's big night pushes East Webster to victory

BALDWYN – Jack Wilson threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns as the East Webster Wolverines went on the road and defeated the Baldwyn Bearcats 34-7 Friday night.
With the victory, the Wolverines improved their record to 10-2 and will hit the road again next week for a game against Simmons, which defeated Eupora 38-31.

Choctaw County falls to West Marion 40-21

ACKERMAN – Football season came to a conclusion Friday evening for Choctaw County.
After a strong run that saw the Chargers finish in first place in Class 3A, Region 5, a second round game against West Marion ended in a 40-21 loss.
Choctaw County was the first to strike claiming an early 7-0 advantage with just over 9 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

MSU handles Mercer in Preseason NIT opener

Mississippi State opened up the season in style.
The Bulldogs knocked off Mercer 97-66 Friday night in the first round of the Women's Preseason National Invitational Tournament. 
The pregame shoot around didn't ease head coach Vic Schaefer's mind though.

Bulldogs get 400th victory at the Hump

Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray was happy to be a part of history as the Bulldogs were able to get the 400th win in Humphrey Coliseum history on Friday night.
The most important thing in Ray's mind was that his team was successful enough to get a victory in the first game of the season.

Jackets brace for Wave: Return of Horsley could give SHS offense boost

The Tupelo Golden Wave will present one of the toughest challenges defensively that the Starkville Yellowjackets have seen this season.
Starkville has proven it can move the football offensively by averaging 248.4 yards passing per game and 156.5 rushing per outing.
There may be some addition help on the way for the Jackets during tonight's outing against the Golden Wave.

Starkville Academy crosses paths again with Lamar School
