Longhorns, Swing Elite begin play at USSSA-AAA State

Longhorns Baseball and Swing Elite, teams with Starkville connections, will be participating at the USSSA-AAA Mississippi State Championship in Tupelo Thursday and through the weekend.

Mississippi State had 16 athletes received USTFCCCA All-American honors, the association announced Monday.

The newest Mississippi State women's basketball players in freshmen Zion Campbell, Teaira McCowan, Roshunda Johnson, Jazzmun Holmes and Jazmine Spears are going through summer workouts with the coaching staff.

MAC honors area coaches

The Mississippi Association of Coaches has announced their high school and junior college Coaches of the Year for 2015.
East Webster's Lee Berryhill was selected the high school fast pitch Coach of the Year, while East Webster's Pam Champion was recognized as tennis Coach of the Year.
Buddy Stephens of East Mississippi Community College was chosen the junior college football Coach of the Year.

The Elite Travis Outlaw 'Basic Skills' Basketball Camp nears

Travis Outlaw, a 12-year National Basketball Association veteran, is hosting the annual The Elite “Travis Outlaw” Basic Skills and Fundamentals Basketball Camp June 23-25 in Starkville in the Travis Outlaw Center located at the Starkville Sportsplex, 405 Lynn Lane from 8 a.m. until noon. This is a three-day event with the cost for attendance being $75.

Breaking: MSU's Price wins 1,500-meter national title

Mississippi State was able to capture an individual national championship on the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships Saturday.
Rhianwedd Price won the 1,500-meter run in Eugene, Ore., with a time of 4:09.56.

Zinn sticking with MSU commitment

Mississippi State baseball signee Delvin Zinn will not sign with the Chicago Cubs and come play for the Bulldogs.
The Pontotoc shortstop was taken in the 28th round with 833rd overall pick by the Cubs. He joins Graceville, Florida, left-handed pitcher Jared Padgett as those honoring their commitments to MSU.

EUGENE, Ore. – Mississippi State's Brandon McBride will have an opportunity to defend his title in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Championships.
With a time of 1:47.28, McBride moved on to the 800-meter finals Friday after finishing first in his heat.
Alfred Larry of the Bulldogs ran a time of 46.19 in the 400-meter dash to finish 11th.
